The Gender and WASH Monitoring Tool (GWMT) developed by Plan Australia enables practitioners to explore and monitor gender relations in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects. WASH projects affect gender relations in a community whether it is intentional or not. The effectiveness and sustainability of WASH programmes is enhanced when there is an explicit focus on gender equality. Integrating gender strategies into WASH programmes and monitoring their progress towards change can be a challenge. The GWMT is designed to assist this process.
