Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation

August 2021

The mission of this coalition is to dismantle institutional, structural, interpersonal, and social oppressive systems in place affecting menstruation, individuals who menstruate, and their ability to access basic inalienable human rights, critical resources to lead happy, and healthy lives, and obtain dignity. They strive to unite organisations, and individuals who share their vision of reclaiming dignity for each individual during menstruation and aim to transform the menstruation movement to centre dignity. Their website contains resources on dignified menstruation as well as contacts and solidarity for those working in this space.

Who is it for? Policy makers, practitioners, donors and researchers seeking to work with and/or learn from those working on Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) in the global south, particularly those moving beyond Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) to more holistic programming around MHH.

Why is it valuable? It takes a holistic view of menstruation, championing values of equality, dignity and justice. These are well aligned with SLH’s values and priorities. While not a single resource per se, the coalition’s website provides some resources for those looking for more information on specific aspects of MHH that extend beyond the global south. It also provides an opportunity for stakeholders to connect with others working on MHH with similar values and aligns with increasing emphasis on decoloniality and broadening the voices we feature in our resource collection.
