This checklist is a diagnostic tool to measure the status of the SSI WASH system building blocks. The indicators apply to a wide range of country contexts and the user can adapt or add to indicators so that they are context-specific.
This tool complements the ‘Strengthening sanitation and hygiene in the WASH systems conceptual framework‘ discussion paper. It presents a user-friendly matrix with which to assess and monitor sanitation system components. Although there are other similar tools in the market, this has the benefits of focusing on sanitation and of linking well with the paper above.
